Public Access to Redistricting Data
The Kentucky General Assembly is responsible for periodically redrawing the boundaries of the Commonwealth’s congressional and state legislative districts.
Legislators use a program called Maptitude for Redistricting and data from the U.S. Census Bureau.
The U.S. Census Bureau has released redistricting data in easier-to-use formats. All 2020 Census redistricting information can be found
here. Additional information on how to access and download the data is available
here.
Only legislators may propose a formal redistricting plan in a bill or amendment. But members of the public may present drafts of complete plans to legislators for their consideration.
A complete plan includes boundaries for every district in the chamber (six in the U.S. House, 100 in the Kentucky House, and 38 in the Kentucky State Senate). It may be presented to legislators in one of these formats: shapefile or block equivalency.
LRC staff cannot directly accept plan submissions.
