Additional Accommodations

The Commonwealth of Kentucky provides, upon request, reasonable accommodations including auxiliary aids and services necessary to afford an individual with a disability an equal opportunity to participate in all services, programs and activities. To request materials in an alternative format, each agency web site provides information for contacting the person or persons responsible for providing the service within the agency. Persons with hearing and speech impairments can contact each agency by using the Kentucky Relay Service, a toll-free telecommunication device for the deaf (TDD). For voice to TDD, call 800-648-6057. For TDD to voice, call 800-648-6056.

Hearing assistance

A hearing assistance system is available for those with hearing loss in legislative committee rooms and in the House and Senate chambers. Devices small enough to clip on a belt connect wirelessly to the appropriate audio system to amplify sound and bring it directly to the ear. The devices can connect to an induction loop system to transmit audio to hearing aids or a cochlear implant. Users can also borrow earpieces or use their own standard 3.5 mm headphones to receive audio on the devices through an infrared transmission system in the committee rooms or an FM system in the legislative chambers.

To request a hearing assistance device in a committee room, call 564-8100 and ask for Kate Talley or Cindy Smith. You can also come to Room 157 in the Capitol Annex.

To request a hearing assistance device for the Senate or House chamber, call 564-8100, ext. 302 or come to Room 300 in the State Capitol.

Anyone with the Listen Everywhere app can also receive high-quality audio of Senate and House proceedings through their smartphones. If the app is opened while on the public wifi system in the Capitol or Capitol Annex, you’ll be prompted to choose Senate or House audio.
